Trying to get pass the lock plate

I pulled the steering wheel off. Tried a lock plate puller didn't work. Now I have no idea how to get pass the lock plate. Can't seem to find anything on it because its a tilt-telescopic steering column. Anyone got any ideas, it would greatly help. My father lost the key to this corvette 3 years so, I'm trying to replace the key cylinder. Need to get it moving before it sits to long.

you must use the Lock plate removal tool for C3's seriously,
it compresses the assemble so you can remove the lock clip.

This tool screws into the end of the shaft to lock the telescopic in place so it will push the lock plate down.

Yes you will need the tool.

Lock plate compressor tool

I cobbled this tool up yesterday to do the very job you are doing. It uses the steering wheel nut to compress the plate.
