Man, what a 2nd day of school I had....I was cruising into USF in my search for a parking spot, and all of a sudden my horn goes nuts and won't stop. I hadn't even heard it before! It had never worked....so while people are staring me down and flicking me off, thinking I'm mad at them, I'm screwing around with my steering wheel pushing it up and down trying to find a way to make it stop....with no luck I just decided to go home since I was a little embarrassed...;) It had stopped for awhile on the way so I thought it was ok but nope it started again....so I had to call my dad only to find out that I can unhook it in the front... :bb
the night before my dad had straightened my steering wheel for me, so I suppose something got jammed from it somehow. but even though I got a new horn kit and replaced the old one, I have the same problem??

Sounds like there's a wire grounding out in the steering column. I had a very similar problem- I just bypassed my steering column all together and put a separate switch under the dash. Not as convenient, but it sure beats the alternative!

redvettegirl*77-The horn button on the steering wheel creates a ground path for the horn to work when the button is pushed. I suspect that some how the horn button and the ring underneath it are stuck together. Pop off the steering wheel horn button off and see whats wrong with the mechanism? This is how '76 vette horns work. I'm not sure if '77 are the same.
Good luck!

If you go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and look under Steering. Go to Steering Wheel and Horn Parts 1977-1982 T&T Column Pic #6 or the Steering Wheel and Horn Parts 1976-1979 Standard Column Pic #4. These drawings may show you were something may be grounding.
What you can try is disassembling your horn parts, then the steering wheel and hub. Disconnect your battery. Each time you disassemble a part, rehook the battery and see if your horn is still blowing. This should get you to the root cause.

This happened on my '82 because the spring that tensions the in/out movement of the column had slipped off its brass connectors and was toucching the metal base plate. re-seating the spring on the connectors and insulating the base plate with plastic tape solved the problem
