Default Flow master or magnaflow which do you prefer?

Ran 40 series flowmasters for 13 years on my worked 350 73 vette....Nice mean sound until I got a little tired of the noise and went to magnaflow.

When I put them on a while back and started it I'm like ok it's got a nice sound at idle......When I dropped the hammer and took it up to around 4 grand it sounded like a high powered lawn mower.....So I put an H pipe in and it sounded a little deeper....The car runs really good and from what I read magnaflow is a straight through design for all out performance....Unless of course you talk to flowmaster....

I'm thinking of going back to the 40 series because I felt with those mufflers the car had a little more grunt down low.....Now, mufflers are really not performance gains to speak of but if anyone has had both on there car which one did you prefer?

350 .40 blueprinted
Pro comp heads
Lunati cam
Hurst 4 speed
Hooker super competition headers and 2 1/2 exhaust

The good thing is you have tried both. It sounds like you are happier with the Flowmasters. Other people's opinions will not tell you anything except what they like and usually when it comes to mufflers it is easily split between the two.

Those sounds night and day different. You either love or hate em. Not a fan of magnaflow sound at all however loved the Ultraflow practically the same thing go figure. All depends on the car cam profile compression etc.
The 40s are pretty loud
Tried the Delta Flow 50s still has the sound but muted down so you dont get that "ringing", way less resonance couldnt tell any power difference at all. Sound great at WOT. Mufflers make less power difference than youd think if everything upstream is right. Why deal witha sound you hate for 5hp way up top not worth it.
If youre making 7-800 hp maybe it matters more meaning splitting hairs searching for power.
Like Joe Sherman says, "More you have more you get"

The 40s are pretty loud...I figured since I added the H pipe it may even it out somewhat but its not going to be that different..

Hey thanks...

It's actually blue.....I've owned this car for 14 years...It had a repaint about four years ago when a delivery truck with his rear lift extended backed into me......Insurance covered the cost......Funny thing is the body shop called me and said the original color out of the factory was silver..
Either way my classic ins was very helpful and understanding....

I had Flowmaster stainless 50's on my car before I switched to side pipes. They have that deep Flowmaster sound without the drone of the 40's.

Never had Flowmaster 40s. Are we talking Super 40s or Delta 40s?

My son has Delta 40s on his old pick up. Surprisingly doesn't seem that raspy, but maybe the long tailpipes tones it down.

Back in the day we had hush thrush turbo mufflers. Todays thrush all welded, no seams, mufflers are where it's at! And they cost $39.97 each!
You will like them.

If youre into turbo mufflers and want a touch more spice than dynomax the Hooker super turbos have a real nice tone. Kind of metallicy at idle no issues with resonance dont flow bad. Great bang/buck

Edit changed brand name to correct

I like the sound of Flowmasters when they go by on a car, not fond of them inside the car, of the 2 I would prefer Magnaflow. Before you make your decision go hang out at car shows and see if you can find someone that has something else you might like the sound of. see if you can find someone with the Borla XP51 ( I think) supposed to be straight through quiet while cruising and ridiculous at WOT. I just put a pair of Pypes violators on my truck and like them also.

I have the flowmaster delta 50's, they were slightly louder than i preferred, but i loved the sound. Then i added a crossover, and that took the edge off them at higher rpm's but still have a great idle, and for me they are now the perfect balance of great sounding, but not too loud or obnoxious.

literally every time i go somewhere, some one will either ask "what do you got in that?" Or tell me that it sounds great.

Flowmaster on my Silverado, I get similar questions

Magnaflows on the Vette, I get "Nice car, what year is it?"
