Default Radiator support repair

I have a 72 small block coupe with a radiator support in need of repair. I'm trying to find out if I need to support anything up front while the radiator support is out of the car for a couple of days.

No. Nothing needs to be supported. Just make sure when you pull it out that you count and label the shims under the two bolts on the lower left and right of the support so they go back in the same place.

'72 SB here too, and my support was rusted out badly years ago, I bought a replacement at a vette show here in Florida many years ago, less than 200 bux, AND upon doing the switch noted that the weight was WAY lighter on the new one, and so noting the rust on the old OEM, it was because GM never allowed any drain holes at the bottom, so I drilled some on the bottom/rear, really lo near the seam, and poured a ton of paint in there , letting it run around and out the holes, effectively sealing the thing from inside.....when it quit draining, I installed it, let the heat dry it but GOOD.....

note the boomerang shaped cross support the thing was setting on was a holy mess too, so that was replaced also.....noted one thing, the support has mounting nutz/holes on the bottom, but the new cross support has not bolt holes in it, so I never tied the rad support to the cross support....been that way for decades.....

You don't want to put any weight on the front end with the support out.

Agree and good advice!!

If you have to lean on the front for doing work, I suggest supporting it. Also, before you take things apart, I would measure from the floor to the centerline of the front bumper and write down as a reference in case you need to know later if something does not look right.
