Default Anybody Using a Shift Light w/Factory Tach?

My Autometer shift light works as it is supposed to except where I need it. At higher rpms it will not actuate. If I put a 3000 rpm pill in it works great. If I put a 5200 rpm pill in it won't come on when the factory tach reaches 5200 rpm.

I've sent the shift light in to Autometer. They returned it saying it worked fine. If I change pills to another 5200 rpm pill it still doesn't work. I've tried other higher rpm pills and they don't work either.

I have the signal wire hooked up to the white wire coming off of the distributor. I have the factory tach capacitor hooked up as well. I'm using a Davis Unified Ignition distributor on a non stock '81.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you verified the accuracy of your factory tach?

That I have not done.
Is there a good way to do that myself? Does it need to be pulled to be checked and corrected?

If you have a timing light with the rpm function, that's an easy tool to check with. I was thinking that if your factory tack is reading hi, then you might not be getting to the shiftlight rpm.

I have run it as high as 6000 rpm with no shift light activation. That's what puzzles my. Tach has been accurate with the timing light in the past.

Have you tried it with the factory tach unhooked, maybe the signal up hi isn't strong enough .
