I've got the valve covers off to put the new crome ones on, and I noticed that some of the rockers are loose. I want to adjust them but I dont know if I have mecanical lifters or hydrolics. How do you tell without pulling apart the engine?
If a picture wold help in any let me know.

Because rockers open and close the valves, some will be open while others are closed, The valves that are completely closed will make that particular(s) rocker seem loose when the engine is not running , which is normal. What engine do you have? Most likely you have hydraulic lifters. Do NOT just tighten them.

OK then start the engine and let it idle. If it is really quiet you have hydraulic lifters. Mechanical lifters will sound like they are all a little loose. (which they actually are). if you hear one or two clicking but the rest are quiet then adjustment is in order. You need to go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and find the valve adjusting tip.

Thanks Silver I went to corvettefaq first to check valve lash but I must have a difrent nut on my rockers because they get tight before they reach the rocker so I cant check adjustment the way Lars seems to be saying.

I've never noticed lifter noise but the cars so loud I wouldn't know if they were or not. :p:
