temp gauge stopped working
My '68 temp gauge has stopped working and im relatively sure i know why... I just dont know how to fix it. The temp gauge is currently pegged way passed hot (per willcox test video, it is passed the rivet in the side so, missing ground from gauge?) It still shows pegged both with the main 3 plug connected and disconnected.
As you can see in the picture: there is a (red) resistor? that leads out to the (pink) connector tab - this is the only wire leading from it. I dont know where this goes, or if this has anything to do with the temp gauge. I just know its not connected to anything back there.... Does it have anything to do with the gauge, and if so, what? the green arrows are the temp gauge wires and spades. For dummy sake: with the gauge in the dash, the pink (12v) wire should be at the bottom, black middle, and green top - correct?
Thanks in advance!

im not sure which way it was on, but it will be on that way now
I also hit the terminals with a wire brush just because there was a bit a rust, so, everything is good now.
Any idea what the thing i circled is for?

The black wire in the center of the temp gauge plug is ground, it supplies ground for the whole gauge cluster. The thing in the red circle looks like a capacitor, used to keep electrical noise out of the original radio speakers.

It's pretty much impossible to have the plug upside down.
The plug has reliefs cut into it so you can't do this and get it securely on the gauge. These reliefs are more prominent than those on the wiper switch and I guess you could put it part of the way on but I doubt it would stay.
In Pete's picture you see how far outward the terminal tings are... to get the connector on securely and seated you pretty much have to have it on the right way.
