Default is my trash original?

What or where do I have to look to see if I have the original engine in my 81 vette. My block number is 14010207 and vin #1G1AY876XBS412089. My heads are 462624. I was told I was getting matching numbers. which means an L81 engine or am i wrong.

Block and head numbers are correct for an 81. L81 was the only engine available in 81.

Look for a small tab on the front of the block on the passenger side of the waterpump. There should be a series of two numbers stamped there. One of those will have the last 6 of the vin number and the other will have a plant and date ID and end in the suffix of ZDA, ZDB, ZDC, ZDD depending on tranny and California car or not.

If those all match up, then it is the correct engine.
