Default Head Porting and Carb mods

It's been a long time since I've dealt with a Gen 1 SBC and I'd like to know if there is anybody/place I can get cast iron heads ported. I also keep seeing references here about "Lars carb mods", but how do I get a hold of him to ask questions or get his "mod list"?

I wouldn't spend much on OEM small block heads to port them. You can certainly make good gains but if you can't do it yourself, by the time you pay someone to port them and do a valve job and replace whatever worn parts they have you'll be way upside down a s compared to buying even a lower priced aluminum head.

Jim, what I'm planning is having the Vortec heads modded which are brand new, not even installed yet.

Be careful messing with them too much. The factory valvejob is supposed to be very good. Just clean them up in bowls but don't open throat too much.

Those vortec heads have that screw shaped bowl, they can be made a good bit better but I agree your money is better spent on aftermarket heads. No mater what you do the vortec is a better low speed torque head.

it gives an idea of what can be accomplished... but it's hard for diy without ability to test each step.
