Default Another cylinder head thread

Getting ready to rebuild my current BBC and looking for some input from some of you with more experience than I.

Current engine setup has 118cc combustion chamber ported iron 026 heads, but valves and springs need to be replaced. Existing pistons are TRW L2349 (forged with -30.6 dome) with a forged crank. Pistons, cylinder walls and crank are in good shape so want to reuse if at all possible.

Existing setup is at 10.53:1 compression and would like to reduce slightly but stay within upper pump gas range for an occasional daily driver. No mixing or race gas is a goal.

I would like to go with aluminum heads to save a bit of weight on the front and really don't want to change out my pistons. That leaves me with a 118 or 119 cc combustion chamber head required to match my pistons.

Looking for heads with that size chamber leaves me with Brodix RaceRite BB-O or BB-2 heads if I want to go with oval ports.

Anyone with experience with these heads or possibly other suggestions on heads. Was going to go with AFR, but their chambers are at 112 and will require a piston change, so they seem to be out. Several others that are rectangular port, but am thinking for a daily driver an oval port is probably best.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks.

I made 770 horsepower with a hot pump gas 496 9 years ago.....and 830 with 477 big block....(4.500bore, 3.750 stroke) race setup at 12.5 to one. Both with Brodix CNC race oval ports.......

IMHO probably the best all around Big Block head.........but at $3000 plus for a pair.....they should be.

This will be a little milder, but still in the 600 or so range I am hoping. thanks for the input.

Anyone have thoughts on if 10.5:1 is too much for pump gas? Seems on the ragged edge and really don't want pinging issues. Final setup looks like it will be just south of 10.5:1, maybe around 10.3:1 or so depending on final parts.

Not with aluminum heads no.......perfect IMHO.

One thing I forgot to mention is how nice these heads are......they are art work and very high quality. Brodix goes the extra mile too and installs Heli-Coils in all bolt holes for extra strength.

The Race Rite Ovals would be a perfect choice for the combo. Those heads with a hyd roller combination can make 600HP. For a more street friendly combo 550HP deal would be the ticket.

This board members 427 has a set of Brodix on it along with a 288/300 Ol'd school cam shaft.

Thanks.
Was thinking of going with a performer RPM intake and potentially one of Comps 4 pattern cams 11-615-44. Not sure on the cam yet though. Maybe I will pm or call you today Chris for a cam, lifter and rocker recommendations
