When I was looking at the engine you have in mind, I most often looked at: http://www.salleechevrolet.com Don't be to impressed with all the high hp ratings until you see at what point it makes the power.
A few years ago I put a 350 crate motor in my 67 vert (no longer own it). I found the best price at a dealership halfway across the state. Parts guy really talked it up, and quoted a hp figure. After picking it up and installing it I read an article in Vette magazine. I paid a lot more than the MSRP and the hp that the dealership told me was way too high. I tried to get some of my money back and the parts manager gave me some BS about the figure he gave me being "developed" horsepower. I personally will never buy another crate motor from a chevy dealership again. my $.02
I don't have the magazine any more but I'll try to find a copy of the article.

Re: Crate Engines (Corvettelvr73)
Earlier this year I purchased a crate engine from Scoggin-Dickey (www.sdpc2000.com). They have a wide selection of engines and some of the best prices I could find.
There are alot of places in the magazines. At the beginning of this year I bought mine at Hedricks Chevrolet north of Atlanta.I heard they were going to stop dealing in crate engines due to lack of space and they are not big sellers .Hendricks is based out of NC .Call them and see what their price is .In my case they were a little higher but if you include shipping ,the other guys were higher . :yesnod: :yesnod:
