Sorry to bug you guys again with this, but I'm getting some serious static and buzzing from the 4x6 Alpines in the dash. They were in the car when I bought it, but the stereo system that was installed was only powering the two rear speakers! So I connected them when I installed my new stereo since you can't even hear the ones in the back with the tops off, only to find this. I figure either one of three things is wrong:
1. The speakers are rated at "40W max" while my stereo is "4x50W." Seems like a likely culprit.
2. The wiring is bad. The speakers just have wires leading from the clips right to stereo's harness -- no transistor or anything. Although there is a "Delco DS-501" sitting in the dash, presumably used in the original stereo somehow, it doesn't appear to be connected to anything. Is this correct?
3. The speakers themselves are faulty and need to be replaced.
Does anyone else have any experience with this sort of thing? I'm itching to put the interior back together and get out driving.

Re: Dash speaker static and buzzing? (VetticusSupersonicus)
Your speaker rating isnt the issue.I think you have a problem with static from the ignition wires/alternator.Theres a filter you mount inline with the positve power cabel to remove SOME of the static.
Do a search on this topic and you`ll find alot of answers :yesnod:
Re: Dash speaker static and buzzing? (VetticusSupersonicus)
in my case, Bubba disconnected the factory harness to the stereo, and wired his own. we restored the wiring to original and i promptly blew the speakers. ( can I really expect anything else with double the power radio and 20 year old been baking in the sun speakers??) I'd take a good look in the vestibule behind the gauge panel. I'd be willing to bet you have a bubba job back there too
