I just recently traded for this 69 400 horse car. Could someone give
Me a clue on how to see the timing marks over that idler pulley?
I think there must be an easier way than laying up on the fender and
Putting your head down near the fan. There must be an easier way.
Thanks

That's the way you do it! Wait till you have to adjust the belt tension on the power steering pump....
At least you can do that without the fan spinning in your face!
I know what you mean. My 69 L36 doesn't have an idler so it isn't all that bad but with the idler is a real pain. The best way is with a dial back light so all you really have to concentrate on or see is the zero mark.

It's a PITA to do for sure with all of the crap in the way. With the engine cold, paint the timing mark on the harmonic balancer with a line of white paint and make a similar line on the timing tab at the degree mark you want. At least this will allow you to get a better image with your timing light. If you are lucky you may find a place to shine thru the belts, wires, hoses and fan shroud in the way so you can see the timing marks from the side of the fender.
