Condolences from one 78 L-82SA owner to another. It's just a damn shame that these cars will most likely get junked rather than fixed.
I wish you best of luck on the settlement and getting your next C3 project! Remember, it's about the journey, and maybe it stinks now, but you are wiser and will get into the next one with your eyes wide open.
It sucks but you wrecked in an old car and walked away, which is the bright side. I agree with the others, if it's not repairable then at least get it back so you can use the rebuilt motor in the next one.
Hope you heal up soon.
Most important is your getting back to 100 percent. Hopefully you got a police report and some witnesses to prevail with the insurance. My co-worker's wife just got rear-ended by a driver without insurance, registration, inspection, suspended license, out of state plate. That driver got a ride over to the local police precinct.

wow. I remember all that you went through to get the transmission fixed. That was an ordeal for you. Sorry you got hit. Hopefully you can get the full value of your car
Glad you are ok, hope there will be no lingering health problems associated with this. It is so sad to see a C3 all banged up like this. None of us know what might be waiting for us around the next turn, so many drivers are distracted these days. I'll bet if everyone drove a classic car that they had poured their blood , sweat , time and money into ....you would see a 90% reduction in accidents .
Glad you are OK.. Sad that so many people cannot drive carefully..no reason for such wrecks..other than stupid, inattention, distractions..
Can't fix stupid..the other maladies should be fixed..I hope you get a very good settlement on the insurance
issue and perhaps can find another '78.Jim
we sure do enjoy ours..
For the rest of you..BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!
You need to change your screen name to Jim in Australia.
Hopefully you heal quickly.this is an unfortunate way to start the new year. I would be interested to know if the frame is bent or not. These cars contrary to what people say about reinforcing sections of the frame are actually quite stout. If it isn't bent it's probably repairable. It may cost a bit but if they come up with some b.s about 4 thousand bucks tell them to find you a replacement.a collector insurance company would probably not have an issue of covering it for 15k possibly more. For that kind of money you may get it fixed and painted, maybe. But you may be better off finding another one. Good luck to you and keep us posted. I'm sure each of us will help in any way we can.
Sorry to hear about your accident and glad you are ok. '78 SA's are one of my favorite models. Just saw one on Mecum Auction go for 8k ,might have been a pig with lip stick but looked very nice on tv. Good luck to you. Given time everything will work out.
Sorry that happened to you. Unless you have it insured at a high agreed value with a collector car insurance company, my guess would be a regular insurance company will total it.
You could do a "buy back" from the insurance company and keep the clean title that you have. Then do the repairs on your own, or use it for parts on your next vette.
My wife totaled our 2004 Acura TL (with 150,000 miles) last April and gave me $5000, plus told me to keep the car due to the mileage. I then did a few minor repairs to get it to where it could be driven which cost me $75, then sold it on ebay for $3250 with damages.
I'm sorry to hear of your accident and hope you make a full recovery. I would wait to see what your insurance company will pay you if they total it. You could go after the other drivers insurance or the other driver for the difference from what your insurance company gives you and what the value is for your year and model corvette. Depending on the laws of the state you reside and what your legal recourse is, you might get enough to purchase another Corvette equipped just the same as the one you lost. If they don't cover the replacement value, there are several lenders who will finance on custom and vintage vehicles. I would think twice about purchasing back your Corvette if the insurance company calls it a total. The value of a vehicle greatly depreciates when it is labeled as salvaged on the title and some insurance companies will not insure them. What ever you decide, good luck, and I hope to see you back on the forum getting your Vette repaired or showing off your new toy.
Hopefully your ok, car can always be fixed or replaced. I do feel your pain but from your pictures it looks like frame maybe fine and depending who the insurance carrier is they may fix it. It would be sad to see another silver anniversary bite the dust.
I have my car insured with Corvette Museum and I tell my friends don't wreck it, total it!
Oh man that's terrible! I can't imagine how you feel because it hurts just to see the pictures. First off is that you're ok, most important! Possessions can always be replaced and I'm sure after this bad experience is over you will have another nice one. Best of luck to you.
So the Geico claims adjuster (a female) is evaluating car tomorrow. I had it taken to Mullikin's Corvette in Piedmont, SC, and the owner said he could fix it. Crossing my fingers I get enough money to do it right. My friend Greg, keeps telling me to just take money and invest in another one. But I want MINE ! Sooooo....waiting to see. I have such a sentimental attachment I just am devastated. You guys have been so good to me...honest...and haven't led me astray or laughed at me trying to learn more. Thank you!
