When i removed this engine in the past I dd removed/nstalled engine from the side. I placed jack stands under the frame by the a pillar. I have the trans supported with the car (corvette jack) and a peice of wood. I cannot get the boom perpendicular and close enough without the legs of the hoist hitting the jack under the trans, thus cocking it or hitting the base of the jackstands thus the engine is too far over to the left or right.
could you move the jack stands forward to under the A-arms? or back under the doors
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.

Any room to move the jack back, you need one more jack to do this. There is not as much weight under the tyranny as one might think.
I used to put the T10's in there buy arm power. I did the same with the TKO 600, lifted it in place with my hands, that was a nasty one wieghing twice what the T10 wieghed.
If the hoist is hitting the jackstands while your getting the engine where it needs to be, then yo need to move the jackstands to another location further back, and one as far forward as can be.
As you can tell by the responses, it has been done before, and you have done it yourself before....it can be done, you can do it!!!
sstocker31, 63mako, tektrans. I got it installed and the damn thing practically fell into place, a few minutes! go figure.
To make it work I placed the jack stands on the sway bar supports and that gave me more than enough room to reposition the hoist without it's legs hitting the jack I had supporting the trans or the jack stands themselves I also bolted the engine leveler chains in the holes on the cylinder heads closest to the intake manifold which allowed the engine to swing back and forth/side to side easier.
Gkull: never said an engine hoist could not be rolled in from the side. BTW in your pic what did you use to get the car that high off the ground? a crane? (lol)

I did the install with transmission from the front. Got a piece of square tubing (7 ft) and have it extending all the way back for extra weight distribution. Also have a couple hundred pounds of extra weight on the rear legs so that it doesn't tip forward.
