I can't keep it running though, I'm still working on that. I think it's the float height on the carb. I'll keep y'all posted.

Heres' a video:
http://members.aol.com/yellow69shark...tuallyruns.MPG

And all the smoke at the end is just oil coming off the headers. I had an "incident" when priming the oil pump.

Credit goes to JCL for the sound.

Fun, messing with the carb/choke can be a pain. Make sure you set it up in this order. Dwell then Timing then Mixture/Idle settings.

I had to laugh because your assistant reminded me of my girlfriend when she helps me out. I tell her what to do and she becomes fixated on that one item. In your case, watching the oil pressure. And my gf is always nervous about the smoke/and or noises as well.

Good Luck! :D

Congrats Steve Sounds great!!

What cam did you go with again?

Nothing like having the girlfriend as a helper "Yay, the oil pressure went to 70."

I can relate, hope to have mine fired up soon. :yesnod:

DollaGreen: I set the dwell initially with a feeler gauge, but I can't keep it running long enough to use the dwellmeter. I think the float level is off on the carb.

Corey 68: The cam is a custom grind from the race shop I used, but it's similar to a comp cams 278H.

My wife IS a cutie though :D

Believe me I'd love to. It needs a LOT of tuning first...

Steve,

The motor sounds very good! It won't be long before you have it running like a Suisse chronometer. I bet you felt like passing out the cigars, and Cuban's at that!

Good job,

Chuck

Nothing better than firing up a new motor for the first time. :D

We always did it with just the headers on and no exhaust. The neighbors loved us. :jester

Congrats!

Steve,

Didn't you already run your engine in on a dyno a few months ago?

The shop did. I didn't personally. They were using their own carb and distributor for the break-in.

I'm going to call the shop and see what they recommend for timing etc.

That's really cool, that you can get your wife to help you like that. She sounds like she knows her stuff. My wife would help, but I think I would find it to be more frustrating than anything else. Besides, I need her to corral the little ones and keep them from learning any new vocabulary words from Daddy...

Steve,

Didn't the shop make over 600hp with your engine? I thought I recalled some incredible number!

620. I have the dyno sheet in here somewhere. If I find it I'll scan it....

Hehe, she just follows instructions well. She asked me if my engine was a V8 today, bless her heart.

My wife is a treasure, no doubt about that.
