Re: Interesting 63' Split Window Project car (GrandSportC3)
Well, here's the deal on this guy. He's local and likeable enough, but I STRONGLY DISLIKE what he does with the cars, this one being a perfect example. He basically buys complete cars, needing resto, canibalizes many of the higher priced parts off of them, selling them on E Bay, then sells the remaining carcas for whatever it'll bring. I saw this car at his shop and there was also another 63 coupe, ex racecar, going through the same ordeal. He makes no apologies for the "they're worth more as parts than complete cars" mentality and in all honesty I just hate to see complete cars parted out. This particular car has had the back glass, front glass, most of the stainless, the hood, and much of the interior sold off of it on E Bay if my memory serves me right. When I saw this car it was in the process of being stripped and it gave me a sad feeling. It would've been a great project for somebody, but possibly too expensive now without a donor car.

I saw that car too. The guy said that he sold off the interior, glass, etc. already on EBAY. I know a few fellows around me who do the same thing. They're businessmen....they're in the Corvette business to make a living. They're not strictly enthusiasts. That's the difference :) It's tough to draw that line, especially for someone like myself. One particular guy I've known for years buys and sells a LOT of Corvettes. On Top Flight/Bloomington Gold type cars, I've known him to remove the Wonderbar radios and install cheap Kraco systems just so he can make a few extra bux selling the radio to somebody else. Different strokes for different folks.
That 63 would be a labor of love now......a perfect example of putting 20 to 25K into a car, PLUS the cost of the car itself. You would have well in excess of 30K (not including your labor/time) into a 63 300HP automatic coupe. You could buy a nice one done for that price. Chuck
