Default 79 Water Temp Sensor

I replaced my stock L48 w/a 383, AFR heads. Old water temp sensor and guage worked fine in L48. Had to buy smaller 3/8" sensor for new head. O'reilly BWD brand..installed and no workie??? Called Willvox and was told if new sensor didn't give ANY indication/needle movement, i had bigger issues than sensor. Any ideas?

if you ground the wire attached to the sensor does the gauge move?
did you use any kind of thread sealant on the sensor that would prevent a complete electrical circuit?
why didnt you use an adapter and use the stock sensor?

i will try the ground and see if i get guage movement. The sensor actually came w/teflon on the threads. After my initial startup and got no indication, i removed the teflon and used just a smidge of pipe sealant (like rector seal pipe dope). As far as an adapter goes, did not know there was such an animal..where would i find such a part?

Plumbing supply would have it, they are standard plumbing threads.

I just finished the same thing on my 1980. L48 gone with new 383. I broke the tab on the stock one so replace it with an O'reilly sensor. Mine came with no thread sealer so i used regular plumbers teflon tape. No problem with readings. I would try what others suggested and ground it, if still nothing it could be a bad sensor.
