Speedometer bouncing
My speedometer needle has begun to bounce around. It seems to settle down after 50mph. Does that sound like the cable or the speedo gear in trans? This is in a 1981 4 speed. Any ideas would be appreciated. :confused:

Most likely the cable. Lubricating the cable should correct the problem. Whatever you do, do not let it progress as this is what I did and one day it went wild, enough to break the speedo needle. Much bigger job to replace the needle than just replacing the cable. Good Luck.

Dissasembling, cleaning and lubing the cruise control transducer on my '80 solved the problem on my Vette but any one of the varous moving parts in that system could be in need of cleaning/lubricating.
It can be a little time consuming but very do-able.
