Hello all, I have a 1975 vette. The driver side window was running perfectly and quit once, I proceeded to clean all contacts etc... and then it worked again. When installing a new glass and making adjustments it quit once again. I tried a different motor and it still didn't work. I tried different switches and that didn't seem to help either. Is it possible that the wire has gone "bad"? Is there a fuse for just the driver side?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff Jordan
The windows are on 1 circuit so if 1 is working the relay and power supply are working.
A broken wire, switch or window motor are the most likely suspects it sounds like in your situation. For the wire check the area where it makes the crossing from the jamb to the door, the area where it has to flex for the door movement. Over time wires will eventually break by the constant flexing.
Just a quess here, but I'd say you don't own a 'test light'. Purchase one at an auto parts store, they're cheap. One end has a clip that you attach to a good known ground. The other pointed end on the probe is for touching 'hot' or positive points in the circuit to test for current, such as a terminal that holds the fuses. When the probe lights up, you've got power there. It sure is cheaper than quess/replacing random parts. Sound diagnosis is the basis for accure economical repairs.
Hook-up the test light and place the probe into one of the terminals of the p/w motor, cycle the switch and watch for the light to signal current there. If not, keep 'backing-up' your test points in the circuit until you find power. That will be an indicator that somewhere fwd of that point, theres a problem/open in the circuit. Good Luck -Rod :chevy
My problem with this is where to touch the wires. Does one end half to be attached to a ground on the car or can I touch switch wire blue or brown on one end and either or on the other end by the motor?
Thanks for the help.
You can just repair/replace the segment of wire thats bad. It's 14gauge wire the brown should have 12 volts between it and ground with the switch in the down position and the Blue 12 volts in the up position for the drivers side window.
