Default U-JOINTS

While my vette is undergoing it's Vortec transformation, I thought it would be a good time to change all the u-joints. I've never worked on corvette u-joints before. I'm guessing that there is a total of 6?

As of now, my car makes a clunk sound when I drop it into gear. With the new engine, making close to 350hp, I'm sure these things won't last too long.

So, what am I looking at as far as cost to replace them? I would like performance u-joints to handle the extra horsepower. Recommendations?
How much time is involved?

Some folks think spicer joints are better than the 'brute force' joints sold commonly, I don't think there is a dimes' worth of differance.... the bf's are cheaper typically.....
the job is no big deal really, easy to do as most driveshafts....put locktite red on all the bolts upon reassy.....

No clue about prices of U Joints, but they're a pretty cheap item to begin with. Here's my advice......2 basic styles of U joints....WITH a zirk fitting and WITHOUT. Conventional wisdom says that those WITHOUT the zirk fittings are stronger, as they are not drilled internally to allow grease flow. BTW, original U joints did not have the zirk fittings. Hope this helps. Chuck

Im using the BF ujoints I got at autozone. They were about $12 each. Theyre holding up good so far after a year of pounding. If you decide to use ujoints with zerks, make sure you install the joints with the zerks facing inboard away from the spindle end. A previous owner of my car had them installed facing the spindle and they made contact and shroomed the end of the spindle concave. This made it difficult for me when I rebuilt the rear bearings since the end of the spindle threads were slightly mucked up. I was lucky to be able to get it back togeather. It almost ruined the spindle on one side.
