Default Finally, back in the USA!

Well, after a year in the Persian Gulf (Kingdom of Bahrain) I am back home in the USA. Just hope Uncle Sam doesn't call me back for a second year. When we start spanking Iraq again I expect my phone to ring with orders to pack my seabag and return to Bahrain.

You guys (and gals) on the forum were a big help in passing my off hours. Loved being able to follow all the threads and dream of getting back to "the other woman."

Sure is a culture shock returning. Green grass, thunderstorms and lightning, Dennys, Taco Bell, sitting on the back porch drinking coffee and reading the paper. In short, all the things I took for granted having not been out of the US for an extended period in over 20 years.

Sure was nice taking "the other woman" (and the wife too) for a drive yesterday!

Welcome Home... :flag

From someone who currently walks in your shoes, for a couple of more months anyway (I retire in March…maybe...stop loss?) thanks for your service!

Wonder how soon you (we) will go back? Just hope we do it right this time, feeling better about it with Powell and Chaney and oh, ya, Mr. Bush at the reigns this time.

Enjoy your family and your car!

Unless you've been in the service (like yourself) one does take for granted all the benifits of living here in USA... makes you really appreciate being a American citizen :yesnod:
I lived in the Philippines (where 80% of population lives on $125 a month) for two years and was very shock in the culture and living conditions there.

Anyway... thanks for serving our great country! :flag

2tone82, the stop loss program was canex-ed via NAVADMIN 237/02. The new 20 year HYT for E-6 must be what you mean.

Cali,

Although I am approved for retirement and continue to make plans to exit active duty as early as December (or as late as March if I sell back my leave), I know the needs of our Country and my Corps can dictate otherwise.

As you are well aware, our forces are somewhat strained from homeland defense, that coupled with other forces being strayed all over the Middle East are cause for concern. Depending upon your job, stop loss or what ever they call it these days, remain a very real possibility for everyone in uniform, active or reserve, EAS or retirement.

Did you notice the SecNav message last week? It grants commanders stop loss authority in certain instances. Probably all we should say out here on a public domain….just don’t drop your pack yet…or what ever you Squids call it…LOL brother! :flag

As others have said before thank you for your service. I spent 6 yrs romping around other countries and people don't understand that it's not fun and games. Also that every place you go isn't a summer camp. Hope you're enjoyin your time home. I know it's never long enough but it sure is nice to be home..
