Do they give a slight tick?? I have my valves adjusted perfectly, yet my motor still gives out a slight uncomforting ticking. My buddy Jeff said his 454 Suburban did the same thing. Anyone have any info on this?

My Comp Cams lifters do not tick with my XE262. When I added the full roller rockers THEY ticked. Has to do with the adjustment being differant with less spring than a roller rocker should have.

How can you install it incorrectly??
I turned the cam over until the rod set as far back as possible. Then I took some grease and stuck it on the rod and then put it in the freezer for a while. The stuck the pushrod in the slot, put the silicone on and put the cover and pump on.....

Could it be exhaust noise yur hearing? Since the the header tubes are way thinner than stock manifolds you can actually hear the exhaust spitting against the tube as it gets pushed out of the port. Even when all sealed up good, sometimes headers make this noise, which makes one believe its a valve tap. I have the same setup as you and if I listen close I can hear exhaust noise thru the tube that is similar to valve tapping.

Possibly. I haven't really paid attention or even thought about it for that matter. It could be possible though. It just sounds REAL close to lifter ticking.

Hold a section of garden or heater hose to your ear and move the other end to and away from the header tubes as they curve away from the head. This might help you localize the noise.

Also what type of rocker nuts are you using? The stock stlye crimp nuts have a tendancy to back off, especially when used more than once. It happened to me. I then tried Crane Cool nuts which caused a clearence problem between the top of the nut and my Magnum roller tips. Finally I found that Mr. Gasket polylocks worked in conjunction with Comp Cams roller tips without clearence problems. The Crane coolnuts worked with stock stamped rockers but had clearence problems with the thicker Magnum roller tips.
Re: Anyone with CompCams XE-lifters..need your help. (Aaron-74)
Aaron-74, those are the same nuts that I was using and they are the crimp type stock stlye. Not to say that yours will, but mine backed off and a valve began tapping. I then went to the locking style Mr. Gasket polylocks and have not had a problem since.

I have the XE268 and i'm using Crane Energizer Full Roller Rockers. They make what sounds like a ticking sound. I also have adjusted them numerous times and they still tick. They guy at the local rod shop said that that is just a characteristic of the rollers, and that the magnum roller tips will make more noise than the full roller cranes. My uncle who races a couple prostreet camaros and a 509 alcohal camaro (not sure which class) told me his rollers always made that sound. So i think you should be ok, if you can hear it outside the car with the hood closed, then you may have a problem ;)

I can barely hear it out side with the hood closed. Of course I'm listening for it. I think I'm going to get a set of those posi-locks just to be sure.

It is in or it is not. Ya can't install it incorrectly since it is symetrical. Matter of fact ya cannot install the pump if the rod is not in the block all the way. But as far as the rod bing in wrong and causing a ticking.... no way UNLESS the rod is worn much shorter than original length.
I have HEARD and I say HEARD that the XE series cams cause ticking due to the profile inherent in the Xtreme Energy grinds. I have an XE 268 and it SEEMS a little "ticky" but it is in a Corvette and the glass does such a poor shielding job I am not sure. I should add that my XE268 has Crane lifters on it.
Another point here...unless you are running some sort of special "Rhodes" like lifters, and Comp does make something like that, then almost ALL hydraulic lifters from ALL the cam makers are made by only one or two hydraulic lifter makers.
I also HEARD that Richmond rear end gears ALL make noise even when set up correctly. I think that is BS and this Comp lifters (dtandard style NOT Rhodes type) thing may just be more road lore.
