454 Update..... with pics- Finally!
Why the 850 Demon? Dont they have a 750 Demon or a 650 double pumper?
Just trying to find more info on big blocks and carb selection !
Chuck

I raced a high 11 second 502 camaro the other day and he swore I had the Fogger kicked in the way I walked away from him, I did not.
I also agree the 850 is not too big.
What rear end gear ratio are you using Bob, and what 1st gear ratio in your tranny. :chevy

Are you going to have an A.C.E. get together for the install???
We want to help  Drink your beer... :D

Don't worry they do good work. It's how mine got swapped.

Chuck H- Thanks for the good words!!! I do have a 3.08 rear with a 2.77 first gear, thus yielding a 8.53 to one first gear. I chose this setup since I feared that I would spin the tires all the time in first. However, after seeing your setup, and listening to your car on your website, I am considering changing to 3.55 gears........
You have a 3.27 first with a 3.08 rear, right?? Congrats on the dyno run BTW!!
69 N.O.X RATT- See above for gear ratios. What ratios did you choose in your six speed?? Like I was telling Chuck, I may go with 3.55's. I will have to see how this motor runs. What do you think?
DesertDawg- HAHAHAHA!! It's Chevy orange but seems to have a reddish tint to it. What is an A.C.E???? If you guys want to come by when I am doing the swap, let me know!! What beer(s) do you drink??
BSeery- Yes, sir! If you want to stop over during the swap and hang out with cold beers, let me know. What do you want to drink???? I will prepare ourselves early! I should be starting the swap sometime in October. I am still buying parts here and there. I am down in Power Ranch.
You might want to check with Richmond. Changing the 1st gear to a 3.27 might be easier and cheaper than changing your rear end. Especially if everything is already out of the car.

Here is a few pictures of the last saturday that they all get together. From this you should be able to tell how mechanically inclined they are.

My ZZ4 swap project

just let one of us know when you are going to start on it, and we will come over and see if we can break anything expensive....
I live 2 mi. off of Rt.53. Email me when you meander back here..........
:yesnod: :chevy :chevy :yesnod:
Racesmith- Thanks! I am getting anxious to get that mouse out and the Rat in!!
Chuck- Excellent Point. I will see if that is a viable way to go.... I guess I should have done even more research than I did when I ordered it. I went with the ratios I have based on this article: (You may have seen it already)

Thanks!- Tom/99
BSeery- Great shots on those pages! Looks like there are still good and friendly people out there willing to help one another. I am one of those also! I think I could use the help on startup and making sure everything is right before cranking over the motor (timing/carb adj). I want to break in that cam correctly.... I don't mind doing the work of getting the engine in there, etc, etc. I will let you guys know....as I progress...
Desertdawg- "just let one of us know when you are going to start on it, and we will come over and see if we can break anything expensive...."
HAHAHA!! No problem!!!! Do you come up to Phoenix often??
GrandsportC3- Thanks!! Hey- why are you selling that '80?? Do you have a C5 in mind???!!!!
MassVette- You can count on my emailing you when I get back there! I can't wait for the seafood! (I'm buying!!)
Thank you for the offer on the Chrome header bolts. But, I am going to pass on them since I am not a big fan of chrome (except for my fuel pump!!) on this motor. Put them up in the for sale section....
Thanks again,
Bob
Thanks for the compliments!! I do like Craftsman tools since there's a Sears in most malls...
I followed the engine buildup from Chevy High Performance from the March 2000 issue. They got 480hp/ 500lbs. of torque out of it... Add to it the pocket ported heads, high comp. ratio, and roller rockers, I hope it will make the 480 or even a little better.
I try not to exaggerate hp like most people do. The dyno doesn't lie!! It will be a BIG improvement over my L-48 mouse (195hp) and that's all I really expect out of it. It should be somewhat streetable as well.
I won't be the fastest out there. If I wanted that and had the $$$, I would buy one of those Hennessy Motorsport Vipers putting out 800hp and be street legal....
Bob
