Default E-brake bracket on offset trailing arms

I'm installing some van steel trailing arms on my 79. Quick question to the guys that have done this.

The e-brake cable won't go all the way through the new bracket so I can put the clip on it. I'm tempted to try and open it up a little further or just drill it out a little larger but don't want to mess up the powder coat if I don't have to. Is there another way to make this fit? See picture below.

Thanks

Ryan

Hey Ryan, I just put the parking brake cable into my Van Steel arms on my 68. I had to take some sandpaper and clean out the inside of one of the parking brake cable brackets so it would fit through as it was too tight. I did not have to drill it out though. You might want to call Van Steel they have been helpful when I have had questions with their stuff. Chris

I don't remember having any problems when I installed mine. Can you take a straight slot or some other tool and slightly open the bracket by prying on the slot at the top to open in up a bit?

As you said, it may only need to be pried open a wee bit and then closed again with pliers once the cable is set.

Take a chisel and open it up a little. Just wedge it in the open end and tap it with a hammer. Go slow and test fit until it pops in. You may get away with no damage to the powder coating.

Thank yall for the advice. I spoke with Dan at VS and they said just to tap it open just enough to fit the cable. Easy fix, I wanted to be sure there wasn't any other options.
