Melonized.

Never use a bronze or composite gear on the street.

Hi Eric, we use a high number of Comp's "-8" cams, they've performed flawlessly on every build.

All their cams ending with that "-8" number, which denotes cast core blanks, takes an OEM distributor gear and an OEM fuel pump pushrod.

Been using this combo for over 25 years now with not a single failure. They are in just about all our 100% stock-appearing builds, retro-roller units.

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. The only recommendation Comp makes on the "-8's" if using any HP/HV mechanical fuel pumps is best to go with a "bronzed-tip" fuel pump pushrod.

FWIW, the OEM gear is melonized.

Just make sure it's for a .491" shaft if using a GM distributor. I think the MSD's are .500".

A bronze gear will run on any cam core.
A bronze gear can run for 1000's of miles if it is a good bronze gear. Morel uses Ampco45 material for their bronze gear.
Melonite gears were developed by Morel.
A Melonite gear is safe to run on any type of Cast core or a 2 pc billet core that has the press on or bolt on gear.
Comp/Crane/Lunati all the same owners.
