I pulled the interior and dash to rewire the car. Found a complete shot floor pan sheet metal with some very VERY bubba like repairs. Bottom line is that both side need replaced.
Does anybody know anyone that sells them. I need one for a 77'. I have the equipment and expertise to build one from scratch, however, i could save sometime by buying one if they don't cost an arm and a leg.
Bair's Corvette Parts in Linesville,PA currently sells '76-'82 metal replacement floor pans. I don't know their exact price, but I believe they are over $200 per side. I think they are at http://www.bairs.com
Did mine myself. The only parts that were bad on mine was the foot wells. Using a small brake I was able to fab the sheet metal to go up under the dash, up the sides of the tunnel, and up over and under where the seats mount. Spot welded the patches in place and then covered everything with 2 layers of 'glass mesh cloth.
BTW, liberally coated the sheet metal with Rust-O-Leum (sp).
I plan on taking out the rivet on the fire wall and undoing all the spot welds and dropping the entire pan. I have access to a pretty well equiped sheet metal shop and their employees. We are going to make one whole unit as a replacement. I think i'm going with a little heavery gauge metal though. More support strengh plus the little bit of weight that it will add will actually be good weight considering the location. Near the rear wheels and low to the ground.
I'm going with galvinized metal, then i'm going to rubber coat the out side and rustulem the hell out of the inside.
Anything i should look out for before i start this project anyone. Never done this before. Would appreciate any words of wisdom.
i would use POR 15 on the inside of the pans, i think it protects better than rust-oleum. i have been very disapointed with rustoleum paints. i painted the rear impact bar with it and it turned out blotchey and nasty lookin...somebody recommended krylon and i re-sprayed it with that. looks much better.
