ok, from what i've read and the answers to my other thread i see that i'm really not going to gain anything that explains why i should spend the money on a new intake and carb. i guess i will go over the stock q-jet and make sure everything is working correctly. should i keep the computer controlled q-jet or swap to one that doesnt have the TPS and the other connection or should i keep that carb? i also read that i should bump the ignition timing up a bit over what the factory calls for. will getting rid of the EGR and the smog pump help get any more performance out of this engine? it has a slight competion cams cam and i'm going to put headers with side pipes so that should help breathe a little better. any suggestions are helpful. thanks all.

thanks Easy Mike for the info. do you know of any companies that sell quality rebuilt/updated for performance q-jets? i have the q-jet with the ecm connected to it. should i use another q-jet with those connetions or go with a q-jet without them? thanks, jersey george
I would not change intakes unless you can get an aluminum L-82 for zero to nothing....there is very little performance gain with an intake change...maybe 5-7 HP with an edelbrock Performer RPM.
If you don't have to pass emssions or a visual inspection, I would ditch the EGR and Air pump. The performance gain is different timing and tune more for performance.
If the Qjet needs work, LARS on this forum is the man to go to...
I don't think either Lars or Cliff work on the electronic q jet.but you could check.a different carb and distributor properly set up should help performance.
