Wonder if someone can answer some questions. I am not the smartest guy about engines, just dangerous.
I rebuilt mt GM Fast Burn crate motor because piston rings failed, I finished rebuild in Dec and now have 100 miles on rebuild this weather was nice this weekend in Chicago
Crate motor when new would run on after shutting engine off. When I would shut engine off it always made a funny sound or vibration. Now that its rebuilt that doesn't happen anymore. It sounds more solid.

What changed
Probably just the tune. If the idle was too high you might see some run on, same with low octane gas.
No carbon build up in the rebuilt engine. Carbon built up in the motor before rebuild would have caused the compression to be slightly higher and also can make hot spots that would contribute to the run on otherwise known as dieseling.
