How's this going? Anybody make the Mako Shark II emblems yet?
BTW---There is no known real GM Mako Shark II emblem being publically shown. The GM Mako Shark II transitioned into the GM Manta Ray and now has Manta Ray emblems.
As per my last post, I lost interest in this after the sample I got from Emblem Art in Hawaii was disappointing. The profile I used was taken from a photo of the Mako emblem and wasn't too bad. It looked like the shark on the MakoShark2.com logo on djunod's sig. However the sample was two dimensional/flat and didn't have much character.
I talked to Joan Speker (sp?) who did the beautiful job on the Miss Mako about her emblem. She had a couple custom made by a silver smith out of silver. Probably reproducible in 3D in silver but a little rich for my blood.
I'm still interested and open to ideas.
What we really need to make this happen is an impression taken from the original. Anyone know the NCM manager well enough to ask about getting this done?
There is NO Mako Shark II even available to be displayed. It was converted to the Manta Ray years ago. The Manta Ray has a logo that says Manta Ray and a sculpture of the Manta Ray sea creature.
I read about this briefly - back when it was first posted. To be honest,
I didn't pay much attention at the time.
Is the intention to reproduce a facimile of the mako shark fender emblems,
such that C3ers can replace their Stingray scripts with the sharks ??
One thing I realize is that you will need two different ones made - so that
they will both face forward and fit in the original mounting holes.
Here is an idea - that unfortunately I cannot carry out at this time.
First, a prototype (or two for reasons above) should be made from a
hardening modeling clay. This prototype could also be carved from a hard
dense wood like maple. Pins should then be located in the back, such that
they mount up properly. Note, the prototypes should be made so that
they will "release" from a mold. In other words, If you were to lay the face
of it into plaster, with the flat side at the surface, the prototype should be
removable from the firm plaster without breaking the plaster.
If the prototypes are fabricated as described above, then the final items
can then be cast from Aluminum - or Zinc. Aluminum castings are easily formed
from prototype models by using an oil/sand mixture and casting boxes.
Anyone with access to a Vocational school or High School metal shop
can inquire - as to how it is done.
The castings will be rough, and no doubt - they will require a few hours
with a Dremel tool, grinding stone, and a buffing wheel.
Motivate me - How much would these "one of a kind" emblems be worth ?
It's gotta be more than double the Stingray ones !!
Hmmm - makes me think. Maybe we can get some High School kids to do
the whole thing !! Art class - 2nd period, Metal Shop class 5th period, and
Auto Shop 7th period. Designed fabbed and installed !!

No problem. I wish that they would have built a whole new car for the Manta Ray. Still, I would love to see a good replica of the Manta Ray. I still haven't seen the Manta Ray in person... maybe someday.
The manufacturers name, engraved on the backs, is " Taylor Custom" & "Replica" next to it. They have never been mounted & i no longer have a C3. Ive searched for the maker & so far haven't found them...so since i cant recall what i paid it seems i cant find what theyre really worth. But i also havent found any others either

If you have some the modern 3D printing and modeling would make making them pretty simple and cheap. It's not like you even need to make molds or anything if you already have a set.
