Default Anyone with experience using 4 pattern cams

I am in the process of rebuilding my '69 into a 21st century, 1969 Corvette. All you original equipment guys should flee now..

I've added R & P, Baer brakes, Electronic ignition, and right now EFI, but I want to update the cam.

I currently have a ZL1 cam, 580-600" lift in the motor (427 + 060, Winters 074 heads, roller rockers, with 11:1 CR) . Not the best low RPM Cam. I have another hydraulic roller, with 595/595 lift.

I am considering one of the new Comp Cams 4 profile cams 11-615-44. It's lift is (about) 660 on the intake and 650 on the exhaust. These have higher lift on the longer runners, and this technology is used by NASCAR engine builders to squeeze another 20 or so HP out of their motors.

The cam itself sells for about $700, so it is not a trivial decision or purchase.

Does anyone have any real time experience with one of these cams? If so, do you have any quantifiable improvements? Or, will I just be spending $700 that I could better spend somewhere else?

Thanks

higher lift on longer runners sounds logical but WTF do I know?? my stuff all came from Harold at Ultradyne but not for 10 years, both Ultradyne and camshaft guru Harold Brookshire are long gone, I would ask at the speed talk website

Yes I have been the mechanic on those kinds of cams. I've also seen motors with 1.75 or 1.8 ratio rockers on the outer cylinders

I personally use a .685/714 billet steel with the 4/7 firing order swap on my 434 ci

Imo it's cheaper to buy a few higher ratio rrs and look into staggered jetting

I like the idea of 1.75 rockers on the outside runners.

What benefit do you see with the 4/7 switch?

How much did you have to notch your pistons with that big 714 lift on your exhaust?

Thanks.

Are you stuck on using those heads and old cam?

On the $700 save your money

What are you expecting from this motor in terms of power, use etc?

his technology is used by NASCAR engine builders to squeeze another 20 or so HP out of their motors.
Been done on big blocks for decades. Not saying it doesnt work but not worth that kind of money. Rockers much cheaper option
Wasnt it Sig Erson that was pushing these back in the 70s (someone help me out here)

The motor sounds crisp when you are standing along the fence and you hear the motor and the shifts as it is coming towards you on the main straight. It sounds like a trans am screaming ford Motored race car. I always got comments on road racing weekends

You can read up on the altered firing or cam and you will hear less torsional vibration and some minor power gain

I have wisco tiny weight pistons for longer rods. Out of the box they are made for. .800+ lifts. Even with big duration cams
