Longtubes!
If the motors stock and going to stay that way better off leaving as is (meaning manifolds over shorties). Will look ok but for the $ spent think youll regret it
I just used Hooker Super Comp coated headers on my 69 with a LS-5 454. Tight? Yes. Fit? Perfect with no beating and banging. They slipped right in from the bottom too. I installed a Pypes exhaust system also. Very good fit, and everything works great, in my opinion.
Shorty headers don't really give enough advantage for the buck you spend over stock exhaust manifolds. Long tube headers will produce more low end torque than manifolds too, even short tubes.
If you want shorty's 'McJacks' tend to have a good reputation.
I understand some people don't like to deal with headers, most of those are folks that don't really know headers and how to install and maintain them.
However, your McJacks shorty headers for a 68 big block are $795. My Hooker Super Comp with coating were $700. A hundred dollar savings is a big savings to me, and you wind up with long tube, not short. Help me understand what makes McJacks that much better of a header?
some folks do not like dragging long tube headers,
over speed bumps on the street.
I agree, with cheap headers, maybe Blackjack type headers. But a good quality header tucks up tight to the floor and lines right up with the exhaust from stock, they line up with the cross member pass through. Try a good header next time, like Hooker Super Comp coated headers.
