I have a 76E that I'm having issues with the gas gauge. When the tank is full, the needle goes all the way to the 3 o'clock position. I normally fill up at about half a tank on the gauge and it takes about 9 gallons. Right now the car is sitting on about 3/4 a tank (looking in the tank) and the needle is about halfway through the F.
I've gone through the Wilcox troubleshooting guide. When I test the sending unit I get 64 Ohms with it sitting at about 3/4 full. When I remove the #1 wire from the sending unit, the gauge goes a hair past the 3 o'clock position. When I ground it out the gauge goes to just a hair about E.
Is this a bad gauge, or is something else going on?
