Default Need help with a code 43 - Knock Sensor

I just got a 1985 C4 and the check engine light stays on. I pulled the code and the Haynes manual says its a problem with the Knock Sensor. I'm not even sure where or what the knock sensor is or does, much less how to fix the problem. Please help.

the sensor is in the block, it just detects movment by a cyrastl in the sensor, which means either your engine is way out of balance and you need to rebuild it, or you have a missfire in one or more of your cyclinders. however if thats the case a missfire code should also be present. and of course a final option, the sensor just went bad from age and wear and tear, just pull it out and replace it, reset your computer so the code is lost and see if it comes back. :chevy

The crystal sensor is very sensitive. The one in my 88 suburban will detect a knock if the engine pings longer than a 5th of a second. I have changed the cam and I get a few code 43's. Make sure your timing is correct and you are using good gas. I also put in a 180 degree stat from the 195. This seemed to help. Usually when the 43 code is thrown, the computer will retard the timing in 2 degree increments until the knock stops. It will then slowly advance the timing to the orginal setting.
