Lever on center console

My friend just bought a '72 this week. His car has this switch/ lever on it that my car does not have. Only thing i can think of is it is related to A/C which his car has but mine doesn't. Can someone tell me what it is??

Thanks. That is what we figured but didn't want to turn the a/c on in the cold weather to test.

A/C ducts but should flow heat as well.
