Default Rear main seal STUCK!

Well I tried tapping, pounding it out, it's stuck, and I mean stuck. I've torn the hell outta it so I have to finish the job.

Saturday I'm going to loosen up all the main caps and drop the crank a bit. I even tried to push / tap out the lower half just to see how stuck on they were, they are STUCK on. Been there for 50 years as far as I can tell.

I think lowering the crank is the last ditch effort before pulling the engine. Anyone else have any suggestions????

And yes - I shoulda just pulled the damn engine to begin with. It would have been easier and quicker in the long run.

I may pull it anyway just so I can tell the wife the trans is broke and I need a new one. Need to trade the PG for a 700R4 honey, the PG is broken!

PS - this is a 67 Camaro with 327 / powerglide that I just bought. Love it, but so far a freakin money pit and a half. The car looked very good, but had nothing done to it for decades!

I had the same issue when I replaced mine a couple years ago. I Googled options and the deck screw method worked for me.

I've looked and can't find a "deck screw method". Can you elaborate please? I really want to get this done.

You stick a long deck screw between the block and the old seal. The course threads act as an auger and pulls it out. I recall I put a washer on the screw head so I could leverage it better to keep it from just driving into the seal. youtube videos is where I found it.
