Default NEW P/S Hoses too long

I purchased new power steering hoses for my '78. The old ones are OK but I'm replacing almost every rubber item on the car.

The new ones are slightly longer than the originals. As you can see in this picture, I am not able to get the brass fitting to meet with the bracket on the P/S valve like the originals did.

The hoses are from Corvette ? (I forgot - America) came from Willcox so they are real parts - not some one size fits all from the chain store.

With great difficulty, I am able to get them installed but one leaks and I don't even have the pump installed yet!

Is this normal or could I possibly have the wrong hoses. The part number on the invoice isCAX2154 but that may be a Wilcox kit number. There were not part numbers on the parts themselves or in the bag.

My concern is twofold: One is squeezing the extra length between the fittings may be putting undu pressure at the fittings?

Secondly, as they do not face up against the bracket is this a problem.

While I'm at it - Is GM P/S fluid 89020661 still available or has this been replaced with something new.

Thanks

I sure hope my post does not seem to be disparaging Willcox or CA. I respect those guys. I only mentioned their names, and I hope I made that clear, as I sourced these parts from respected quality vendors.

I worked on the this on Saturday and not able to finish I posted the thread in case someone has had a similar experience and could help me muddle through on Sunday.

I'll ask another question - I put thread sealer on the fittings. Is that appropriate for hydraulic fittings or could this be contributing to my leak?

No sealer on a flared fitting.

There are 2 different hoses, maybe you haave them crossed. One is to extend one is to retract. Just a thought.
