Now that it's cold out again my Vette is smoking when I start her up. But not right after. She runs fine 5 or 10 seconds then she smokes for 30 to 60 seconds. While she is smoking she runs rougher, like she's running on 7 clyinders. Smoke comes from both exhaust pipes BTW.
The smoke is blue.
This does NOT happen when it's 70 degrees out.
It does not puff imeadiately like valve seals do, but runs a little first.
I've got forged pistons, could this be part of the problem?
As you know forged pistons expand more than cast or hypereutectic and must be set up loose. They can rock in the bore when cold and make it hard for the oil rings to do their job.
Do you hear piston slap on cold start up?
Yea it sounds like an F-ing Diesel. I'm wondering if the engine builder set the pistons extra loose to make them survive longer under extreme usage, like nitrous...and when it gets cold the oil rings just can't do their job till the piston heats up?
