I can look in the owners manual for my 68 and see what i says for your engine.
I know my for L79, it says PREMIUM.
Remember, premium in 1968 was higher octane than today.
my dad had a 69 427/390 way back in the 70s, and when we went thru the gas crunch the car wouldn't run on anything except premium. reason he sold it was he couldn't find gas to drive it.
