I've got one switch on this cluster that only works in one direction. My goal is to take it apart to clean it, or at least spray some electrical cleaner where I can. The problem is, it looks like it was never meant to come apart - not even from the wiring harness! Has anyone successfully separated the two parts? Help!
The harness unplugs. I used contact cleaner sprayed in the face, and in gaps in the back.
Usually its the motor gears that are gummed up, not the switch.
They offer track and motor rebuilding for the power seat as well.
I'm almost positive my motor is good. Every other position works except for the back and down portion. However, if I flick the switch just right, it will work. What's confusing to me is the fact that you can buy just the switch to replace. By the way it sounds, there isn't really a way to remove the switch from the harness without breaking things. How did you replace yours?
Okay, I'll try that again. I'm always a little cautious when prying at things on a 35 year old car!
Hey garrettb I have a bad seat switch also and it seems to take a lot of prying to remove it from the plugs base. Just wondering how you made out sure don't want to break anything. Suggestions?
To tell you the truth, I was never able to get the switch apart. I couldn't do it without risk of breaking something. After I was done tinkering with it, the switch started regularly working again. I'll still probably take the wiring harness out and spray electrical cleaner everywhere, but I don't want to separate the switch.

Started prying a little and was able to gain some separation of the switches from their base but have not achieved total disconnection as of yet. Think I will take some time to research further. Thanks for the heads up.
