Does anyone have images of the vac. routing diagrams that they could post? I've decided that I'm going to try to get these wacky vac. lights working before I bite the bullet and order the $430 solid mount kit from Ecklers. I found one image at Zip, but it doesn't appear to be accurate for my car. (I'm assuming because I don't have the wiper door with my '76) Also, my reserve canister appears to be a humongous steel pipe located in front of the radiator and not some jar near the master cylinder as my Haynes manual shows. (or am I just going crazy?)
Another question, is the first thingamabob after the hose comes out of the manifold supposed to be a filter? I thought it was, but when I pulled it out it was just a pass through with no filter element at all (could see right through it). I'm guessing that needs to be replaced.
And is the second thingamabob next down the hoses after the manifold supposed to be a backflow (check) valve of some sort? It's the little 1 to 2 hose cone shaped metal thing with "Trico" on it. I pulled it out, and no matter how I put air through it, there was never any restriction. I'm assuming it's supposed to be a valve though otherwise I don't see why just a plain old "T" fitting wouldn't be used. Another part to replace?
I have a '72 - so there are differences, but YES the first device after the manifold is a filter - YES there is supposed to be a guaze like cloth in there. The next thing is the check valve - it's ther eto keep the vacuum going only one way - toward the engine. If you can pass air from the single inlet side to the dual inlet side - it is defective.
As for vacumn hose routing, your best bet is to look as a lot of pictures or go to a car show ( at survivor class ) cars. I've never seen very good documentation for hose routing - even in the ncrs manuals.
One thing more - I got a booklet for troubleshooting corvette vacumn systems and a small hand vacumn pump. They helped A LOT !!!
I've got a reference to a vacuum description and diagram on this page. I just went to the referenced site and noticed that the diagram is not downloading. I've got a printout at home of the diagram. If you will check there tonight after 9, I'll try to have it scanned and on the site.
Diagram has been posted. The vacuum link goes to a vetteworks page and is really excellent. For some reason the picture has been removed and I was fortunate enough to have a color printout.
Order a correct, color coded vacuum hose diagram from Docrebuild. You can also buy a troubleshooting chart that will help diagnose the problems. These diagrams are year specific, and will be correct for your car.
The Zip diagram on the internet is wrong. If you follow their on line diagram, the lights will not work.
I just opened the page and you are right, the diagram is not coming up. There is a place all the way at the bottom where it should be, but there is a red X. Perhaps an e-mail to vetteworks might get it working again? I'm not sure what causes these things to stop working, but the info is all good and maybe might be enough even without the drawing.
Late checking in, however, you didn't say if the hoses are off or just not working. Before you do any thing with them replace the check valve(the 2nd one) and try your system, that may be your only problem. Most people have filters with no insides, better a little dirt goes thru instead of the filter.
