Hey I just found a pair of AFR Aluminum 195 CC heads. 68 CC chambers and straight plugs. Ive got em at a good price for still being in the box, and, Im wondering.......How much HP will these support? What would be the best way to use these heads in a daily driven Vette? I am still deciding whether or not to use this GENII LT1 I have sitting here in the 78 or if I want to rebuild the L-82 and slap a richmond 6-speed behind it. How much HP can i pull out of these heads is my main question, and what kind of engine setup would you recomend. I plan on running a ROD 6 speed with the 3:73s that are in it. and i would like some High RPM HP, and some low down torque to turn the .50:1 OD easily. Please give me some help, I can't wait too long on this deal or they will be sold. Thanks Mike
I have the 190s which are very similar to the 195 heads. I have about 430 HP but I should be able to get over 500 HP with these heads. I would like to build a 383 short block with these heads and should be able to get over 500 HP wit hsimilar torque. A 400+ cube motor would require bigger heads.
If you decide not to use them, I'd be interested in buying them. I built a stroker and those are the heads I plan on getting, but I've been spending money on finishing up other aspects of the car.
Im not absolutely sure, but wont first and second gear be pretty much useless with that much gear and the ROD-6 speed. Most people with the ROD-6 speed are running 3.08's or less. Just something you might want to look into....
OOOOOOOOOO :bb , I did'nt think about that. What are the ratios that the ROD has? Id like to get it to where I run about 1500RPM on the highway @60. I feel i should get fairly good mileage out of it then. But I don't want a usless 1st, and 2nd gear. Let me know.
The AFR195's are great heads. However, they won't work with a LT-1 GenII small block due to the reverse flow.
As for the ROD 6, they are many different ratios available. Jegs has about 4 different versions for sale. 1st gear can range from 2.73 to 3.27. 5th is always 1:1. 6th is either .82 or .67 OD. Go here for more info: http://www.richmondgear.com
I know that they won't work on a GENII motor. I have a 383ci heads/cam LT1 in the garage with a T-56. I was considering putting that in the Pacecar, But being that its my dads old one, and it's rare as far as the 78 pacecars go, Im thinking of keeping it to the point that I can put everything back in to make it original if need be. And thank you for the info on the Ratios. What are the stock 4-speed ratios? It has the close ratio 4-speed right now.(I'm trying to get a feel for what I would want to order. Thanks for the help. Mike

I have a Richmond 5 speed with 3.70s in it.... The first gear is a stump puller, will be great for racing with slicks and parades. I plan on switching to a 3.08 also.
