Default 1973 or 1971 Air Conditioning

I am rebuilding my 1973, body off. I have access to the original 1973 A/C VIR system or a complete system from a 1971. The 1973 system requires a little more effort to refurbish from an overall condition standpoint, but in reading up on the VIR system and alot of the negatives it may be better to use the 1971 components. This will not be a judged car. Any thoughts? Thanks.

If it were me, and I was going with 134A Freon.. I'd go with the 71 system. The VIR system can't handle 134A Freon and you can purchase a conversion kit for it but even when that's done the valves will still stick on you. What you might want to do before installing the kit is to replace the POA with an upgrade kit (Old Air makes them).

Do not put the 73 stuff back in. The VIR valves fail often. I change my system out completely with new tech stuff.
Parrell flow condicer and a Saden compressor and hoses. I used a 78 evaporator and drier.
