Default Voltage regulator question/problem

Today i was told i might have a problem with my voltage regulator. This is whats going on. This morning i started my car pulled it out of my garage and shut it off. No problem starting it . After about 2 hrs of sitting i went to start it again and it would not start. It sounded like my battery was drained. I put it on a battery charger / starter and waited about a 15 min and it started right up. I let it run some to charge the battery. Turned it off and was dead again. My friend came over so i put it back on the charger , started up , but he heard a buzzing sound coming from the voltage regulator . Could this be a bad voltage regulator? He thinks it is .

Pull the cover off the regulator and watch the contacts. Might be just as easy to replace it. Not that much $$. It's been so long since I messed with an external regulator it's scary. I did come across the tool to bypass it in my toolbox the other day.
