Default Temperature Sending unit

I have read a lot on how new sending units do not match up with the factory gauge. I purchased a BWD unit when i rebuilt my motor because I broke the tab off pulling the motor and the gauge is off. At 180 degrees gauge sets on the 200 mark. At 195 the gauge sits at 12:00

I looked in Eccklers cat and found Part # 25-105182 (GM 8993358) which is made by Lectric limited. Since I'm near Chicago I call Lectric Limited and they tell me they only make the sending units for 1980 and earlier but Ecklers is purchasing the 1981 unit from someone else but gets included with the Lectric Limited logo.

I call Ecklers and they tell me this will match up with the factory gauge and I order it and received it in 4 days but figure I have a 50/50 chance of it working correctly. I just installed it and it works perfectly with factory gauge. No need for adjustable resistor

I did call GM with the GM Part# is crossed to a newer number but no stock

Hope this helps others.

I'm glad you found one that worked but it is rare a few and fare between. I had a customer keep telling people to buy the senders from us because the one we sent him worked great. (It was the wells TU5)... Out of the 20 TU5's we had on the shelf and after we tested them only 1 got anywhere close.. the rest really were way off.

This is why I made the temperature gauge adjustable resistor.
I've tested every brand there is... and all fail to meet the factory ohm's output consistently.

I tested BW, Standard, Wells, and all the other reproduction brands... One brand even states that they make theirs exactly like Gm sender with the oil inside... so I cut it open to see if there was any oil... it was dry just like all the other aftermarket senders.
.
Making a linear change to the gauge with the adjustable resistor works every time.
