Why would my upper radiator hose be flat? Wasn't like this the other day when I started it, was out tonight looking things over and seen it was flat. Radiator is full, any ideas??
I had the same experience not to long ago. I also noticed the car would make a gurgling noise after I parked and shut the ignition off. Shortly thereafter my water pump went. After replacing the water pump the gurgling has stopped and hose has been fine.
Collapsed due to the wire retainers inside rusting out or just plain old and tired and lost tensile strength. Could be aided by a weak radiator cap.
When your car heats up and presurises the system it also forces water past the pressure cap into the plastic radiator reservoir.
When it cools it creates a vacum. With a weakened hose it causes it to suck in.
If you want to check this process put hot water in a plastic drink bottle. put the cap on tightly and shake it. Carefully loosen cap and pressure will be released. (Watch it as water is hot.)
Tighten up cap and leave it.. come back later and you will see the bottle is all squished flat.
