finally got the SOB off today....i removed the radiator and core support as a whole and i disconnected the fan shroud and the little extension on the shroud around the fan...the bottom stud holes on the shroud are chewed up and broken so it enabled me to push back the shroud enough to get the radiator and support out at once. (with the help of a buddy) the shroud isn't in to bad of shape with the exception of the bottom holes being shot, i think i can fabricate something to make it work without buying a new one. the core support is totally shot with lots of "bubbafication" -- looks like someone tried to repair it with fiberglass....looks horrible.

Re: radiator and support out! (eleven79)
Congrats.
I know it is no small job. The core support on my 73 was shot. Ended up replacing it and the radiator. The design of the core support is not so good, allows water to collect along the bottom. 30 years later it is nothing more than rust (if the rust hasn't completely fallen off).
Also had to replace the core support on my 1980. Radiator dropped down about 3/4" against the upper rubber cushions. Got an original GM from Gary Gruhala for about $275, not fun to put in, but on an '80 4spd car, it was'nt too bad. :yesnod:
I think they are all like that. Mine is shot from about half way down. I'm fabracating one now out of square tubing. It will be a lot stronger than the orignal and better designed.
