Accel extreme ceramic plug wires problem
the electrode shown pulled out of the ceramic boot
I also wrote a letter to Holley, who now owns Accel, to see if they have any solution to this problem. It appears the electrode fits so tight on the spark plug that it is making the problem worse. The ad for the wires boasts using stainless steel to get a good connection. When I inspected the electrode I found the usual shape socket- PLUS- a second strong stainless steel band around the whole works. It certainly will make a secure connection, but also makes it difficult to pull the connection apart.
Maybe I should just never check the plugs and then I would not have a problem.
I've got the boots well greased, but the electrode is recessed so far that it is almost impossible to get anything in there to bend it....tried Phillips screwdriver, drill bits, etc. The best I have been able to do is to take an extra spark plug coated with grease and insert and remove it from the boot several times before it is inserted on the plug in the cylinder head.
I was looking at the 90 degree boots online and wondering if the bend in them would make the pulling force go a different direction so it does not go directly against the crimp on the electrode. I may order one to see if it is better. Also- the #3 plug and the 135 degree bend boots I have now cause the boot to be right against the header. The 90 degree boot might give more clearance. If I had a stock engine none of this would be a problem!
