Motor replacement 350/383 height issues..
Hey guys I have a played out 350 in a 1977L82 wanting a 383 stroker.. But was told that I would have height issues with the high intake manifold.. Has anybody done this conversion with a special intake and carburetor/air filter.. If so what combination of parts did you use to avoid this problem.. In the process of pricing out blocks and was disappointed that a 383 would have height issues I appreciate any help that anybody can give thank you..

100% depends on your choice of intake manifold. The highest point of a 383 less the intake is the same as a 350. There are intakes available that will fit easily under a stock hood. I can't help much past that, I have a big block, but there are way more guys with 350/383's that can give you part numbers of intakes that fit.

L82 is a 4 bolt block and a good base for the short block
Dropped base open element air cleaners and 2 inch k&n air filters

Doesn't matter whether its a 350 or a 383. The external dimensions are identical. Its all about the intake manifold. If it won't fit under the hood on the 383, it won't fit under the hood on a 350.

Here's a pic of my '76 with a 4" air filter using a 1-3/4" drop base on top of a Team G single plane intake manifold under the stock hood.
