Default Supporting Transmission During Engine Install

How can one support the transmission in a manner so that the tranny will not tilt left or right when lining up the engine to tranny. Tranny is auto (th350) All suggestions welcome.

I would presume that the tranny mount would keep the lateral movement down to mininum, and you can put a floor jack with 2X4 under trans pan which will aid in the vertical alignment. T

I use something larger than a 2x4 to distribute the load. 2x10, plywood, something like that. Movement of the transmission while installing the engine isn't a big problem.

If I have to move the car without the engine, I lay a 2x4 across the fenders (a couple of folded up moving blankets will protect the paint) and use a rope to suspend the transmission. A couple of bolts in the trans will give you something to tie the rope to.
